In the Noel lab we will explore the current and future capabilities of trapped ions as qubits, sensors, and controllable quantum systems. We will tackle challenges to scaling to large numbers of qubits by deepening our understanding of physical noise processes, integrating new technologies, and exploring new architectures for quantum computing, simulation, and communication.
Current projects include: silicon surface traps for electric field noise sensing, integrated lithium niobate photonics, and quantum computation for lattice QCD, magic phase transitions, and holographic error correcting codes.
